The Irish Deer Commission held a successful meeting with the National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS) today, March 2nd, 2021. A wide range of topics were discussed, with a focus on licensing for the 2021/22 open deer season and how to avoid a repeat of the unintended licensing delays due to COVID-19 experienced for the 2020/21 open season.
The meeting centred on a submission made by the Irish Deer Commission on the current “Legislative and Administrative Arrangements for Deer Licensing in Ireland” following an invitation to the Commission by Minister Daragh O’Brien on November 3rd, 2020.
A summary of the key points discussed have been emailed to Irish Deer Commission members. NPWS ask that no renewal or repeat applications should be submitted for the 2021/22 open deer season until a new application form becomes available in the coming weeks. Further updates will be available on the National Parks & Wildlife Service website in the coming weeks.
It was agreed to hold further meetings between both organisations.
