Overview
With the increasing number of accidents involving deer in Ireland, a comprehensive approach to managing these incidents is essential. The Humane Deer Dispatch Course, designed by the Irish Deer Commission aims to provide critical knowledge and skills for the humane dispatch of deer. This course is essential for individuals who wish to address the issue professionally and ethically.
Course Objective
This Lantra certified course offers practical guidance and theoretical knowledge to manage deer vehicle collisions (DVCs) effectively and humanely. It combines online presentations with an assessment to ensure understanding and competence.
Eligibility
- Members of the Irish Deer Commission
- Members of IFA Countryside or the Irish Farmers’ Association
Assessment
To successfully complete the course, attendees must pass an online assessment. Successful candidates will receive a Lantra Awards Work Card (photo ID required) or Lantra Certificate. An Irish Deer Commission branded Hi-Vis Jacket for use during Humane Deer Dispatch.

Course speakers include Dr Jochen Langbein who is a leading academic on mitigation measures to reduce deer vehicle collisions.
